Thinking of becoming a Volunteer Counsellor at Whist?

We have been offering a Counselling Service at WHiST for over 30 years – and our experience and expertise in responding to women’s needs is substantial.  The Counselling provision here is integrated into our wraparound services – as part of the WHiST model of specialist service provision for women. Outreach counsellors from Rape Crisis Tyneside Northumberland also work from WHiST. The WHiST approach means that as a project we have an informed understanding of the particular issues, contexts, pressures and challenges in women’s lives. As such, we are able to respond flexibly to the range and complexity of health needs and issues that women specifically face over their lifespans.

Our service incorporates a team of dedicated female counsellors who offer their time, skills and experience voluntarily – helping us to provide a valuable resource for women living or working in South Tyneside who wish to access therapeutic support.

During each year we recruit a small number of new volunteer counsellors. Recruitment events for volunteer counsellors are held every few months and are by invitation only. They are an opportunity for you visit the project and get to know our work and approach – and for us to meet you.

Most of our volunteer counsellors are already qualified and experienced – and a few are in the advanced stages of their counselling training and working with us as a supervised placement. We are committed to supporting all the counsellors who work with us – we offer individual and group supervision plus continuing professional development opportunities.

If you are a female counsellor committed to working with a women-centred approach – and are interested in applying to become part of our counselling team at WHiST,  please send us your CV, a personal statement about why you’d like to work with us – and your days/times availability.
