Child Care

WHiST Crèche is an integral part of the organisation itself and as Crèche staff we are proud to be at the heart of the local community providing a fully OFSTED registered caring provision.

WHiST Crèche aims to provide children with the best possible start in life, as well as good opportunities for their parents to develop new skills in an informal atmosphere.  It allows them to overcome isolation and share their concerns about parenting, health and child development issues.  WHiST Crèche provides a safe and secure environment for all the children.

Consistency of care is essential to the child’s development.  It is also the case that some of the children attending the crèche may have experienced unsettled periods in their lives and it is critical that they feel safe in order to participate.

As a group we understand that play is an essential part of how children learn at this young stage in their lives, and our workers are qualified to provide age appropriate play to encourage development.  Attending our crèche is a stepping stone to children moving on to Nursery and Reception classes.  It is equipped with toys to suit special needs and is accessible to children with disabilities.

Staffing
The crèche employs 2 part time child support workers for 25 hours a week and 1 child support worker for 10 hours a week.  Gell Kay, Debra McBride and Sandra Scurfield ensure the crèche is well run, operating to the standards the organisation expects and collecting appropriate information.

Support
The co-ordinator holds weekly staff meetings and a children’s support worker attends to keep up to date with organisational developments and to discuss/share any issues concerning the crèche.
Regular reports are made to the committee.

Training
Throughout the year the support workers undertake various courses as well as updating Food Handling Certificate, the training includes Reflective Planning for 0-5’s, Observation and Assessment, New Foundation Stage, Special Educational Needs and Birth to Three.

Beneficiaries
38 children have attended the Crèche over the past year.
36 parents have taken part in a variety of activities.

Without the Crèche provision none of these women would have been able to access support services.
